The permanent exhibition returns to stay at the Leventis Museum in Nicosia. After 37 years and many miles, “The World of Cyprus” Ο Κόσμος της Κύπρου by Adamantios Diamantis returns permanently in Cyprus. Here ends one chapter and begin another.
It finally arrived a week ago, as announced by the the director of the Teloglion Foundation in Thessaloniki: ” The painting has arrived in Cyprus after a decision by the Teloglion Arts Foundation in Thessaloniki under an agreement with the Foundation A. C . Leventis exchanges of exhibitions, art and educational and research programs with the Leventis Gallery and the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia.”
The project consists of 11 frames which were composed in the lap [1.75 m x 17,5] visual narrative of the people of Cyprus, as interpreted by the artist. The project, which Diamantis built between 1967 and 1972, is distilled decades, notes on Dr. Eleni Nikita, eminently scholar of his work: “In the years of wandering in the island, gathered with love and enthusiasm all elements that made up the character of the people and landscape of his homeland. So, was found to have hundreds of sketches painted ‘either as a visitor or as a lover’, always with faith in the value of this world, the world of Cyprus. The houses, the costume, the conversation and moves his manners and habits, the virtues and vices of Cypriots”.
The project is from last week again in the center of Nicosia, 100 meters from the point where painted forty years ago, and they fled amid the anxiety and uncertainty that followed in 1974.

About Diamantis: Adamantios Diamantis (1900-1994), was An Avant-garde Artist in Modern Cypriot Art. He was a painter and teacher. From 1921 to 1923 he studied painting at the Royal College of Art in London, and in 1926 he returned to Cyprus, where he combined his painting with extensive art teaching at numerous schools. His earlier works show a certain amount of experimentation with modernist styles, particularly Cubism, but he was also concerned with the rendering of the human form as he observed it in the villages of Cyprus – Image Credit Noctoc
